Gartner: IT Spend Up By Only 2 Percent

July 6, 2013 • Management Practice, News

Research by Gartner suggests that global IT spending will increase by only 2% this year, to $US3.7 trillion.  Sounds like a lot of money, but if we’re looking to climb out of a recession here, it’s not a very big bump.  The stock market has been warm this year (was hot, but June was a blast of a/c) and employment has shown signs of heading in the right direction; but you’d think if anything would be leading the charge to prosperity it would be IT so even disregarding the immediate self-interested implications of this tepid figure it’s a little disheartening.  Given too that Gartner’s forecast is a substantial drop from their previous 4.1% prediction, the economic entrails are looking a little sour.
